6 Days Rongai Route

OVERVIEW

The Rongai Route is the only Kilimanjaro route that approaches the mountain from the northern slope. This side of the mountain is rarely visited, making Rongai ideal for trekkers seeking a quieter, more secluded hiking experience. Despite fewer climbers, the scenery is just as impressive as the more popular southern and western routes.

The trailhead at Nalemorú Gate is reached after a 3–4 hour drive from Moshi. Rongai is also the only route that passes close to Mawenzi Peak, one of Kilimanjaro’s three volcanic cones and the third-highest peak in Africa. The descent follows the Marangu Route, allowing climbers to experience both sides of the mountain.

While both 6- and 7-day itineraries are available, the longer option is recommended for better acclimatization.
